I was 42 with a supportive husband and 2 active boys, aged 11 and 8, when I inherited a walking cane for my "dead left leg". I had dragged it round long enough and refused to take more painkillers. While many convinced me to look into lumbar spinal fusion, almost everyone mentioned how great the rehabilitation facilities were at Waratah Private Hospital. I was sold on their hydro pool and looked forward to getting admitted there.

They have a solid program bringing patients together in groups, creating a team environment where we spur each other on. You are always checked up on and never left hanging for the next instructions. I’ve seen 90 year olds doing squats along with people half their age because their approach is simply to will yourself to push through that feeling that it’s impossible and believe that you can achieve a little more than you did before before. "What the mind believes, the body achieves" - never meant so much as it did during my time there. They champion you to be the best that you can be and I know my last day will truly feel like the first day of the rest of my life.

I cannot recommend Waratah Private Rehabilitation Centre’s facilities enough. And if I ever need another round of surgery, I'll know I'll have something to look forward to.

The hospital fabulous, so clean and so organised, the staff were brilliant, kind, caring, compassionate and my surgeon, Dr Goldberg would have to be one of the best in his field and his bed side manner is very caring which isn't always the case with specialists. Thank you so much to Dr Goldberg and all the incredible staff at Waratah Private Hospital, Hurstville.

My mum stayed here for 5 nights and it was nothing less then a nightmare the whole experience. I was bringing her bottles of water as the staff were unable to do this for some reason, they did not bath or shower her until she literally cried to them asking on day 4, they did not change her blood stained sheets till day 3 and there was not a paper towel or vomit bag in the whole hospital. The nurses did not give her her pain killers as they forgot for 2 days, my mum had a full Hysterectomy (excuse my spelling) and a pro lapse repair. The pain killers she should have been on explained from her doctor should have killed a horse, it wasnt untill I kicked up a huge stink and had the doctor pulled out of surgery to come and see my mother that it was found that her pain killers had not been given to her. There was also not a pad insight, and mums was not changed for 2 and a half days after surgery untill she asked, I would prefer to take the risk and die then ever be taken to that hell hole. The nurses/ contractors I'm really not sure what they were or if they are qualified but they were rude and would never come back, when my mum asked to be showered as she could not do this herself she was told when do you have visitors? Can't they do it??? My list could go on and on and on, I don't usually complain but I can't see how this hospital is not shut down or more patrons die daily if this is the experience we had!

A private hospital only concerns about how much money they are going to make out of the patient.

As pleasant as the surroundings are, none of that matters as much as the Rehabilitation Centre’s brilliant, diligent and dedicated staff. From GPs to exercise physiologists and physical therapists, they are not only just professional with sound knowledge in their field, but they’re your cheer squad. They don’t just do their job, they bring hope. They don’t treat you like you are too old or too physically challenged. They embrace your recovery, giving you the tools and motivation to believe you can really improve the quality of your life.

The mezzanine premises that the Rehabilitated Centre is on is spacious, immaculate and inviting. For someone who hasn't walked into a gym for decades, it was non-threatening at all. The hydro pool was my haven, with showers and easy ramp access into the water and a mesmerizing wall-to-ceiling printed mural of a picturesque sandy beach that I imagined I would finally get to enjoy this summer.
